چکیده

Introduction. Histopathological findings of various inclusions were reported in the central nervous system amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) patients but not peripheral nerves. Case report. We present a 66-year-old man with lower limb weakness, later development weakness upper limbs and loss sphincter control. Neurological examination showed affection both motor neurons. He had paresthesia on left side his body socks-distribution numbness. Histopathology sural nerve genetic report basophilic periodic acid-Schiff (PAS)-positive intra-axonal heterozygous L144F mutation exon 5 SOD1 gene. Conclusion. It seems that presence may suggest diagnosis SOD1-positive ALS.

Behçet’s ‎disease is a multisystem vasculitis. Its neurological involvement mostly includes parenchymal and non-parenchymal central nervous system manifestations. Peripheral nervous system presentations are rare. A 32-yr-old male patient who fulfilled the international study group criteria for Behçet’s disease, referred to our center with walking difficulty and repeated falling downs. Neurologi...

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis in a patient with leprosy peripheral neuropathy.

Peripheral neuropathy leading to sequelae is the most important complication of leprosy. The radial, ulnar, median, common peroneal, and posterior tibial nerves are the most commonly involved peripheral nerves in leprosy. Clinical manifestations of such involvement include anaesthesia, paraesthesia, and paralysis, and commonly found disabilities are clawing of the fingers and weakness of pinch,...

Extensive FUS-immunoreactive pathology in juvenile amyotrophic lateral sclerosis with basophilic inclusions.

Juvenile amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) with basophilic inclusions is a well-recognized entity. However, the molecular underpinnings of this devastating disease are poorly understood. Here, we present genetic and neuropathological characterizations in two young women with fatal rapidly progressive ALS with basophilic inclusions. In one case, a germline mutation (P525L) was detected in the ...

Basophilic cytoplasmic inclusions in a case of sporadic juvenile amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.

A 24-year-old woman presented with progressive muscle atrophy and weakness of the right upper extremity. Subsequently her weakness rapidly extended to the left upper extremity, neck and lower extremities. Neurological examination disclosed involvement of the lower motor neuron system. She died 7 months after the onset. There was neuronal loss and reactive gliosis in the anterior horns of the sp...

[SOD1-N196 mutation in a family with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis].

INTRODUCTION N19S mutation is produced by substitution in the 139 position of SOD1 and was described by Mayeux in a patient with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). He suggested that it did not have a causal effect as it was found in asymptomatic and sporadic cases. Other authors in later articles did not agree. MATERIAL AND METHODS We describe a family with 4 members with ALS patients and a...
